NY Dems’ self-serving grandstanding over ICE arrest of illegal migrant council staffer

Council Speaker Julie Menin expressed “outrage” that ICE arrested Rafael Andres Rubio Bohorquez, a council data analyst and Venezuelan national, who’s been in the job for about a year and allegedly possessed “a valid work permit until October.” Rep. Dan Goldman and other Dem electeds joined Menin at the hastily called City Hall presser to fume and to hurl vitriol at the Department of Homeland Security and ICE officials. Those complications didn’t keep Goldman (desperate for headlines as he faces a further-left primary challenge) from calling the ICE arrest part of an “immigration dragnet” conducted by “secret masked police” dragging people “out of cars, out of homes, out of courtrooms” and now targeting those serving “the public as employees of the New York City Council.” The grandstanding Goldman staked out the halls of immigration court at the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building on Tuesday in hopes of intervening on Rubio Bohorquez’s behalf, while Democratic council members and the staff union protested outside the federal lockup on Varick Street in Manhattan. Blue-state Democrats are afflicted by ICE delusion syndrome: City Council members on Tuesday denounced the agency as a pack of “fascists,” a “modern-day Gestapo” that’s “grabbing people off the street and disappearing them.” Menin fumed that Rubio Bohorquez “was doing everything the right way,” yet “still found himself the victim of egregious government overreach,” enforcement she called “unacceptable.” Yes: Enforcing US immigration law is “unacceptable.” Yet her “outrage” relies mainly the fact that Rubio Borhorquez signed an employment attestation in January claiming that he had never been arrested — when in fact he had been, and even the state’s Clean Slate law still requires disclosure of an expunged arrest when seeking a government job.

Hochul’s State of the State reveals plan to undo old New York law that blocks dancing in restaurants She wants a dance dance revolution. The governor’s 2026 State of the State policy book released ahead of her Tuesday speech said Hochul will direct the State Liquor Authority to create a hybrid restaurant-dance license. “To improve trust and transparency and cut red tape, Governor Hochul will charge SLA with allowing dancing by default in taverns and bars and creating a new hybrid restaurant-tavern license,” the policybook stated.

Hochul’s empty State of the State message: Please re-elect me!

Meanwhile, the state already faces billions in red ink in coming years, and billions more as Washington cuts back on Biden-era no-questions-asked federal funds for New York’s sprawling welfare state and the special interests that feed on it. The gov opted to paint that as DC Republicans’ war on the state, insisting New Yorkers’ “rights are under attack” and vowing to “fight back.” Conspicuously, she offered no hint of seeking reforms to Medicaid, the largest single category of state spending, after her last effort at a fix (to the scandal-plagued home health aide program) proved a fiasco. Hochul also jumped on the anti-ICE bandwagon, vowing to “stand up” to agents who abuse their power and banning the agency’s use of state resources to nab illegal immigrants who haven’t committed “serious” crimes; she also wants to require judicial warrants for any “civil immigration enforcement” at “sensitive locations.” That’s a blatant pander to the radical, anti-ICE left, but hello?

How to Take Care of Your Mental Health in 2026

Surgeon General called it back in 2024, due to widespread feelings of disconnection, brought on by a “distressing lack of meaningful relationships, impacting mental health (anxiety, depression), and physical health (heart disease, dementia, early death),” according to Sir Google. For the people in the back: “Analog” is really just a rebrand for “Grandma hobbies,” another trending phrase presumably coined by a group of Gen Zers fed up with “millennial cringe” reels, including things like taking walks—without your phone of course—knitting, reading, putting puzzles together, trying your hand at guitar, taking up photography, and spending time in nature. And finally… There was a silver lining to being holed up on the couch for days on end—I discovered The Big C, a Netflix show starring Laura Linney (fun fact, I picked outfits out for her at a boutique in Chicago several years back) about a Minneapolis high school teacher and mom navigating her new normal upon a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Yankees acquiring Ryan Weathers to bolster pitching depth in trade with Marlins

Try it freeThe club is acquiring left-hander Ryan Weathers from the Marlins in exchange for four prospects — outfielders Dillon Lewis and Brendan Jones and infielders Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus, the Yankees announced Tuesday night. The 26-year-old Weathers, the son of former Yankee David Weathers, bolsters the Yankees’ starting depth and also gives them flexibility, with some experience out of the bullpen and one minor league option remaining. That is important given that the Yankees are set to start the season with Carlos Rodón, Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt on the injured list but will presumably need to make room for them in the rotation at some point.

CAIR “institutionally endorsed and materially supported several encampments on college campuses across California, some of which resulted in violations of the law,” says the Jan. 13 letter to acting US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent and IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank Bisignano, which has been seen by The Post. CAIR California’s Chief Executive Officer Hussam Ayloush responded with the chapter’s own letter to the IRS, denying any wrongdoing and condemning “hate, terrorism and extremism in all forms.” In a comment to The Post, a lawyer for the group said: “Contrary to the false claims made by Mr. Smith, CAIR-California is a respected civil rights organization with a long record of lawful advocacy and cooperation with government agencies.” Last year, two government watchdog groups demanded a high-level investigation into CAIR California over the disappearance of more than $7 million in federal cash that was earmarked to help resettle impoverished immigrants. Last year The Post revealed CAIR and another charity set up a “Champions of Justice Fund,” as “institutional endorsement,” awarding checks of $1,000 to Anti-Israel agitators who spread disruption at US colleges.

Trump has cut the technocratic Gordian Knot — and elites hate it “There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.” That’s a quote often attributed (perhaps incorrectly) to Vladimir Lenin — but whoever said it first, it’s certainly true of the last week or so. For nearly all of the 47 years since Jimmy Carter allowed Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to take power in the fallacious belief that it would somehow advance the cause of human rights, Iran has been a major rival to the United States in the region and around the world. The stealthy American lightning raid that snatched him from Venezuela’s largest military base blew past advanced Chinese and Russian air defenses and incapacitated hundreds of troops guarding Maduro with high-tech sonic weapons that left them vomiting and bleeding from the ears.

Netflix poised to change Warner Bros. Discovery bid to all-cash offer amid investor angst: sources

Up till now, Ted Sarandos-helmed Netflix is said not to be prepared to up its offer, and the deal still relies on the uncertain value of a separate sale of WBD’s cable properties, CNN, TNT and Discovery Inc. That said, the move to go to 100% cash as opposed to an 85-15 cash-stock split could spark an all-out bidding war for control of WBD, prompting a new counteroffer from Paramount Skydance, the mid-sized media company run by independent movie producer David Ellison, his father, the billionaire Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, and RedBird Capital. Their arguments caused some WBD investors such as Gamco Inc.’s Mario Gabelli to demand that Netflix “simplify” its deal terms to include cash because, as he told The Post “cash is king.” Reps for Netflix and WBD declined to comment. While the pressure is on Paramount to put up more money– WBD is said to want between $2 and $4 a share more from PSKY to reopen the bidding process – people inside the firm say they are playing a long game since they believe Netflix’s deal still contains too many variables, even now with an all-cash proposal.

Don’t make the mistake Obama did, Mr. President, enforce your Iran ‘red line’

Barack Obama’s 2012 failure to enforce his red line against the use of chemical weapons by the now-ousted Assad regime in Syria for the fear of empowering jihadists shattered American credibility. Obama warned the Assad regime in 2012 that a “red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around.” Assad responded with a sarin gas strike on the town of Ghouta, where witnesses described “young children convulsing, their open mouths slick with foam; stiff, unbloodied corpses lined up in rows on hospital floors.” Obama’s reticence was followed by repeated chemical attacks, deeper Russian and Iranian entrenchment, and a Syrian regime emboldened by the realization that the United States would not enforce its own red lines. History will judge both Trump and the United States harshly if Washington fails the Iranian people in this moment — just as it judged Obama harshly for turning a blind eye to Syria.

"We face a geopolitical crisis, and if we have to choose between the U.S. and Denmark here and now then we choose Denmark," Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said while appearing alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at a joint press conference in Copenhagen. 11 House Dems buck party to side with Republicans in reversal of Biden-era shower regulation

The House of Representatives voted 226-197 along bipartisan lines Tuesday to reverse Biden-era regulations on shower heads, a move Republican lawmakers framed as a quick and easy way to return choice to homeowners. The bill looks to codify an executive order President Donald Trump issued in April of last year, directing the Department of Energy to repeal the way the Biden administration interpreted water pressure in showers. MIKE JOHNSON SAYS HOUSE GOP WORKING FULL STEAM AHEAD ON TRUMP'S 'AFFORDABILITY AGENDA' "For far too long, federal regulations and red tape have limited consumer choice and forced Americans to live with limited water pressure," Guthrie said.

Lakers stuck in mediocrity with current roster

No longer executing to near perfection on offense — and with Reaves currently out of the lineup for the foreseeable future dealing with a Grade 2 calf strain — the Lakers deficiencies on defense have become more alarming than ever. … Tonight was just one of those cases where you didn’t make shots.” While the defense has been a glaring problem with no answer or options in sight for JJ Redick, the offense’s inability to hit open shots is cause enough to keep the head coach up at night. It’s long been known that the ideal complements to Doncic are long, athletic, defensive-minded wings who can knock down open threes, a versatile big man capable of protecting the rim and rolling to the basket on offense and a secondary scorer who can drop 20-24 points a game on efficiency.

Woman seen on video allegedly blocking Minnesota ICE operation with car as agitators surround agents

Trump flipped off ‘lunatic’ who called him ‘pedophile protector’ — as worker admits he was suspended WASHINGTON — President Trump flipped off a person who shouted that he was a “pedophile protector” during a Tuesday trip to a Ford plant in Michigan. The ongoing release of files was mandated by a transparency law that Trump unsuccessfully attempted to derail last year, framing interest in Epstein as a Democratic “hoax” designed to smear him for his association with the disgraced financier. Trump has said he broke off his friendship with Epstein for poaching Mar-a-Lago staff years before the pedophile was initially arrested in 2006.

Blue State Taps Massive ‘Emergency’ Fund To Hand Out Student Loans

One blue state legislature is rolling out a statewide student loan program that will tap the state’s “emergency” fund to replace a federal program slashed under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). “The federal government is closing the door on opportunity by canceling the federal GradPLUS loan program, ending an essential program that has allowed thousands of students to afford to earn a graduate degree,” Democratic state Rep. Gregg Haddad, co-chair of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, said at a Jan. 6 presser. “There is no way of knowing if the private loan market will offer loans to people with no credit history or who come from low and moderate-income families.” The Department of Education (ED) has stated the GradPLUS program “fueled unsustainable student loan borrowing” due to its uncapped nature, allowing universities to inflate the cost of their degrees with the knowledge the federal government will foot the bill if students cannot afford it.

I’m living through Iran’s bloodthirsty, murderous crackdown — the horrible truth about what’s really happening

Here is the latest on the civil unrest in Iran: - Trump says Iran has stopped killing protesters: ‘There’s no plan for executions’ - Iran issues sickening assassination threat against Trump: ‘This time it will not miss the target’ - US pulls some troops from Middle East bases, sends guided missile destroyer to Persian Gulf - Doctors in Iran collapsing from exhaustion as protesters wounded, killed by regime pile up: ‘Rivers of blood’ But on Saturday, everything changed. At night, three days a week, water is cut off from around 9 or 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. To put it briefly, over these 47 years, aside from destroying the ecosystem and natural resources, damaging our country’s cultural heritage, and cutting ties with the rest of the world because of warmongering, they have brought nothing to our people except poverty. And I deeply hope that President Trump follows through on his promise to support the people of Iran and help dismantle this regime, so that the Iranian people can once again reach the position they truly deserve in the world.
